|03:20 pm - Scorpion Fiction|
So as some of my lj friends may already know, I've finally started writing again. And it's NOT fanfic *gasp!* This is totally unheard of for me. I have FINALLY come up with an original idea that agrees with so many of my sensibilities. All the elements of the fandoms I love (Phantom, VC, greek mythology, general victorian gothic literature, opera buffa, etc) that drove me to write for them are what I wanted to find in some original story that I could make my own and have stand alone.
I want to make this story something serious that I can try to sell, so I'm not just writing it for fun and indulgence, despite how indulgent the subject matter may be to me.
However, the fanfic writer in me still wants to share every last bit of it as I work through it. I'm not sure if this is an ultimately wise idea, and I definitely don't feel I should post it online at large like I used to on fanfiction.net and sanguingenuity and such. What I was considering was making a blog or ljgroup or something just for those few of my friends who might be interested in reading along, and sharing it there.
So consider this prodigal lj post my offer! Let me know, and I will be so very thrilled to share! I won't have any expectations of the readers, though feedback is always much appreciated, and I love discussion. It would really just be so that I could keep myself from exploding with having to keep it all to myself. It would also help motivate me to higher production speed as well as, I'm sure, give me a sense of accomplishment to provide frequent updates and know that friends of mine might perhaps graciously receive such things.
Anyhow, if anyone out there still reads my LJ after I haven't posted in it for almost a year, comment and let me know if you're interested, and I'll whip something up!

I know I haven't really been around on LJ for a while...but I come back to skim through it today after weeks of neglecting it and...yeah...I guess it's a good thing I haven't been. I've been having certain thoughts about it lately, but after just spending ten minutes on it now, I have a whole bunch of..new thoughts. Thanks.
I'll also be downsizing my friend's list soon. Maybe then I'll come back a bit more regularly. Or maybe I'll just make up a new journal name...
I can't believe...well.. nevermind. Whatever. I'll just let it go. I'm sure its my own fault anyway.

So, a bit over a year ago, oldphan and I got the random BRILLIANT idea to put together an audiobook recording of Leroux's Phantom of the Opera with different voice actors for each character. We intended to make it absolutely complete, but fully preformed, instead of just read. Not like a radio-play-ified version of the book, just the book itself (and an unabridged version, no de Mattos for us! We used mostly Bair's translation), but a bit more theatrical than your usual Phantom book-on-CD.
We cast the thing, then had to recast the thing, then had to RECAST the thing, until we finally had people that were able to work with the schedules and make the deadlines and now...FINALLY...the Forward and Chapter 1 are DONE! They aren't perfect, but they're our first attempt at this kind of thing, and we decided they're about as good as we can get them. Future chapters will be even better, but these are very enjoyable--So for all you Leroux Lovers out there, come listen and look forward to more very soon!
Links to listen to the chapters are on Oldphan's website:
The Leroux Audiobook Project
You can just listen to them there, or save target as, and put them on your computer or ipod or whatever if you want. They're for the phans' taking! Share with any other phans you know too! Spread them around!
Our editing skills will get better as we continue. Leave your thoughts in the guestbook on the site too, if you can!
eeeee! I'm so excited! I can't wait for Chapter 2 now! :D
